RIM BlackBerry OS 7 Launching | The BB OS 6.1 update that grew too big for its name has just been made official by RIM as BlackBerry OS 7. Its ambassador into the wide world of smartphones will be the newly minted BlackBerry Bold Touch, which is expected to arrive “this summer.

BlackBerry 7 will first debut in two new smartphone models from the BlackBerry Bold line: the Bold 9900 and 9930, which were both announced today in conjunction with the announcement of the new OS.

The Bold Touch known officially as the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 (the world phone variant) sports the same basic design as past entries in the Bold series, except this time around its 2.8-inch screen is ready and waiting for the touch of your fingers. It’s also the fastest BlackBerry yet with its 1.2 gigahertz Snapdragon processor with a “high performance” graphics processor, and it also features HSPA+ support for AT&T and T-Mobile’s 4G networks.

BlackBerry OS 7 also includes the new BlackBerry Balance software, which is meant to help separate work from personal usage. The OS also receives a significant upgrade to universal search with better voice support. RIM didn't say if older devices will have access to BlackBerry OS 7.
