The Daily iPad newspaper Price

"The Daily," the first news application written and designed specifically for the iPad, launched Wednesday morning -- and may turn decades of traditional publishing on its ear.

Written for and available solely on the Apple iPad, the revolutionary service was unveiled by News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch and Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet services, at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City at 11:00 a.m. It will go live in the Apple App Store at noon. It will feature a variety of new technologies that were previously unthinkable, Murdoch said at the unveiling.

Just minutes before the presentation, here are all the details of Murdoch's The Daily iPad newspaper, sent by Rupert himself. $40 will get you a subscription to 365 days of these contents:
• Over 100 pages of original news, life, entertainment, opinion and sports-every single day of the year
• Original video content
• A selection of articles read aloud
• 360 degree photos you can explore by swiping
• Immersive photography
• Interactive charts, info-graphics and clickable ‘hot spots'
• The option to save articles to read later
• Web-friendly versions of articles you can share via Twitter, Facebook and email
• In-app comments - including audio comments
• Your local weather
• Your favorite sports teams' scores, news and feeds
• Crossword and Sudoku puzzles

The subscription service will be "a new 'push' subscription feature from Apple, where iTunes automatically bills customers on a weekly or monthly basis, and a new edition shows up on customers' iPads every morning," AllThingsD reported.

Beyond the technical challenges, many questions are swirling around The Daily. Pundits and bloggers alike have wondered if the world is ready for an iPad-exclusive newspaper -- and if it even wants one.
